Ask a Coach – September 2022

At the start of this year, we only had a single Level 1 British Cycling accredited coach in Tams. But the club have invested in our members putting club subs towards training up more coaches.  Lisa and Sue have both qualified as Level 1 Coaches with a view to supporting all our members in Fundamental Skills.  Their accreditation was made possible with help from the Ignite Bursary, a fund made available to women in the South West by British Cycling. Nationwide in many sports, there is a massive distortion in the ratio of male and female coaches.  We have also been joined by Rebecca at Level 1 and Rachel at Level 2.  Committee member, Merwyn, is a personal trainer by trade AND a triathlon coach, so not only do we have bike specific offerings, we also have access to a multi-discipline coach.  You can meet our coaches on inductions, club rides and dedicated skills sessions throughout the year.

Mallorca 2022 – We all made it!

Mallorca 2022 – We all made it!

Our 4th trip to Mallorca for club members was much needed and much anticipated and the fact that all 35 of us got there, had a really super holiday with loads of cycling was remarkable.  Port Blue Hotel was fabulous – exceptional, friendly service from the hotel staff, lovely food, a heated outdoor pool and the spa kept everyone happy.  These trips abroad do so much for camaraderie within the club because we meet and interact with all the other club members apres velo and gain fitness, confidence and group riding skills whilst out on the bikes exploring the island.  Widger miles topped 7500 this year and the memory bank is full of laughter, challenges overcome and glorious scenery.  Well done to our crew who conquered Sa Calobra this year for the first time. It’s an iconic climb for your palmares.  Also, the Andratx cross island efforts were incredible: it’s a glorious ride, really the very best of Mallorca cycling on the east side of the island through Bunyalbafur and Valdemossa. Looking forward to more foreign Widger adventures in the years to come.  Hasta Luego Chicas!

What a turnout for the last ride of 2021!

What a great turnout today for Brie’s birthday ride from Lifton Farm Shop.  Thanks to Brie and Chrissie for getting us all out, and meeting up for a ride on the last day of 2021.  We were lucky not to have rain though it was pretty muddy.  Thanks to all for testing before joining us, and we are only sorry that some couldn’t come but were protecting the rest of us. We will see you soon.

Awards, AGM and Xmas party

Our AGM, awards ceremony and xmas party on Saturday were enjoyed by a fabulous crowd of our members.  The photo shows Vic being presented with the Sports Personality of the year award, and very well deserved though there were several other close contenders.  We all enjoyed a spectacular buffet and then the games began.  Say  no more!

Our visit to Mallorca in 2020 was so great that we are planning another visit in March 2022.  We have over 30 members coming along on the trip.  Watch this space for some photos when we get back!
